1- What size skip do you need?
When choosing a skip, it’s important to think about the amount of waste you’re going to generate. Once you know that, you can choose the right size skip. It’s safer to hire a skip that is larger than you think, so you won’t have to hire a second one if you make more waste (which you inevitably will!).
Remember to:
- Check with your local council if there are any restrictions for skips placed on roads.
- Check that your gates are wide enough to fit a lorry through.
- Never overfill a skip
2- Where’s the best place to put a skip?
You can put a skip anywhere on your own property, provided the delivery driver can get access, but you need to plan where you want it. Choose a space that is both big enough and close enough to the site where you are working.
Remember:
- When the skip has been placed, it should not be moved, in case it becomes inaccessible for the collection driver.
- Give the driver clear instructions when he arrives with the skip
3- What can go in the skip?
As a guide: General waste, wood, sand, metal, soil and concrete are fine. Fridges or freezers, batteries, TVs, tyres, oil, paint, solvents, asbestos, fluorescent tubes and gas bottles are not. If in doubt, ask us!
