Are you planning on doing some work in your garden? To deal with the garden clearance waste you generate as cheaply and efficiently as possible, you will need some advice.
Garden Clearance Guide
Not all garden waste can be recycled but the material that can cost a lot less to dispose of. Recyclable garden waste includes grass, leaves, weeds and small twigs. Bigger branches, garden furniture, plastic bags, soil, plant pots and bricks are considered “mixed general waste”. ‘Green waste’ is cheaper to dispose of than mixed waste, so separate it into two piles. When you call a skip company to remove the waste, be sure to specify what type of waste you have because it will need to be kept separate. Waste removal is charged by volume: More volume means more cost, so to try to reduce the space your waste will take up by cutting bulky items like branches and putting heavier items on top. Order the largest skip you can. Big skips cost less per cubic metre than smaller ones.
Don’t forget about compost: it does require some effort and you may need to create a suitable area but creating you’re a compost heap is amongst the most cost-effective and environmentally friendly way of disposing of your garden waste. You can create your own compost free of charge from garden waste like leaves, grass trimmings or bark. Grass trimmings can provide valuable nutrients if they are left on the surface of the lawn to decompose naturally.
Incinerators are another option for burning garden waste and are a safer option than bonfires as they burn at a much higher temperature, producing less smoke. Plenty of people do burn garden waste on bonfires. It’s legal to have a bonfire in your own garden as long as it doesn’t cause a nuisance. Make sure to check for time restrictions on when you can light a fire with your council.
