Every year on 31st October, kids dress in their most ghoulish attire and knock on doors asking for treats. But what do you do with all that Halloween waste?
How to sustainably dispose of Halloween Waste
Perhaps the scariest thing about Halloween is how much plastic waste we generate. In the UK, we waste up to 2,000 tonnes of plastic at Halloween – 83-million plastic bottles’ worth. Here are some tips on sustainably disposing of Halloween waste
Make Pumpkin Food
Pumpkin carving is a tradition that comes from the Samhain festival. People would carve Jack O’Lanterns into turnips to warn away evil spirits. You can put your pumpkin to use and make it into soup, risotto or even delicious biscuits.
Store Your Costumes for next year
If you’ve probably spent a lot of time and money on a costume, why not save it for next year?
Donate unwanted Halloween items
If you won’t use your decorations or costumes, don’t just throw them away. Instead, take them to the charity shop or give them away to someone who can make use of them.
Hire a skip
If you’ve gone all out this and had a Halloween party, you may end up with a lot of leftover waste. This might include glass bottles, beer cans, plastic cups, pumpkins… If you are overloaded with waste, you’ll benefit from cheap skip hire. Martlands skip hire offers a variety of skip sizes that you can hire for a few days. All you need to do is throw your discarded items into the skip, and we take them away to dispose of them responsibly at our own recycling centre.
