Before throwing rubbish away, it’s worth asking if it could be used by someone else. If it is in decent condition, clean and working, the answer is often ‘yes’. Take it to your nearest council tip

Every council is obliged to provide residents with a home collection service for bulky items you cannot fit in your bin. The service is usually restricted to items like furniture, appliances (like fridges) and mattresses and excludes DIY or builders waste.
Break down the waste before it’s collected
Unless the waste is extremely heavy, skip hire companies will charge by volume. So if you’ve got the time, dismantle items, so they take up less space in the skip.
Share the problem with a neighbour
Like most things, buying in bulk is often cheaper. Waste disposal is no different. If you only have half a skip worth of rubbish, it will be more cost-effective to team up with a neighbour and you can split the cost.
