A Welsh council is installing CCTV cameras in a town after fly-tippers cost it £1,200 in clean up costs in just a single week.

Some 2,700kg of rubbish was illegally dumped in Rhyl West. The waste included mattresses, tyres sofas and even shopping trolleys. It cost Denbighshire council £1,200 to remove it. It asked residents to note down the number plates on vehicles dumping waste so prosecutions could be brought.
After a video of the waste was published online, the council’s head of planning and public protection, Emlyn Jones, said: “Hopefully this will send a message about the amount of rubbish we are dealing with. Illegal fly-tipping has a huge impact on our neighbourhood and community. We are installing CCTV cameras to catch people who fly-tip in the area. We will be cracking down on anyone who commits this offence. Possible actions include taking offenders to court and fines of up to £350.”
Another local Councillor, Tony Thomas, went on to say: “Fly-tipping is seen as a disgusting crime by everyone except those who commit it. It is disappointing that someone would go to these lengths instead of disposing of their rubbish legally.”
