A pre-Christmas clearance can be a very big undertaking. But if you enjoy a Yuletide challenge, there are some tips to make space for toys and ensure it all goes smoothly.
Make Space for Toys
How long will it take?
Planning the Christmas clearance will help everything go smoothly. As a rule of thumb, allow yourself half a day per room if you have two people working on the project.
Decide what to throw away
Next, go through everything carefully and decide what to keep, what to sell or give away, and what to throw away. Coloured stickers can help you here: red to ‘keep’, orange to ‘sell/donate’, and green to ‘throw’. Once you have labelled everything up, move items with same coloured stickers closer together in boxes or defined areas.
Estimate how much waste you have
How many standard bin bags do you think your stuff would fill? Walk around each room and note how many skips the stickered items would fill. You should now have estimates of how many: Things to keep; Things to donate or sell and; Things to throw away you have. Now you can work out how big a skip you will need using our skip size guide.

Now it’s time to call Martlands and hire a skip. Your skip will be dropped off outside your home for you to fill it. Our skips are hired out at a flat rate and if it needs to go on a public road you will require a permit (and possibly a parking suspension) from the council.
